Catfish

Clarias gariepinus and the other air breathing African catfish species and hybrids are very interesting food fish. They can contribute to supplying high quality fish proteins to a growing human population. Catfish has tasteful meat, is rich in essential fatty acids like Ω-3 fatty acids and answers today's quest for healthy food.

+ More info

These African catfish species are tropical fish characterised by having an air breathing organ with which they can survive low oxygen levels occurring under natural conditions. They have an omnivorous lifestyle, grow fast and convert food very efficiently into flesh. Their growth potential is therefore enormous. Originally catfish are cultured in ponds which works well in hot climates. In colder climates fish farmers have adopted specially developed recirculation systems that make it a highly sustainable culture. This offers the benefits of a more intense production under controlled culture conditions with a regular output of a uniform quality product. For their reproduction under artificial farming conditions Coppens has published a hatchery manual that can be supplied upon request. Coppens is involved in developing and supplying high performance catfish diets since a long time and is perhaps the only fish feed producer with a research program including catfish nutrition. The basis for the Coppens catfish feed program is laid in our own research facility the Coppens Research Centre (CRC). Catfish nutrition remains an important research topic, which also comprises feed tests with interesting catfish hybrids. The current program promotes fast and efficient growth while the impact on the environment, pollution and water consumption, is minimised. New for 2010 is CatCo PERFORMANCE EF in 3.0 mm. This new high protein diet promotes extra performance during the initial stage of on growing. For further information please check our website; www.coppens.eu. The selected ingredients are purchased from certified suppliers only and meet the highest standards. Every produced batch of feed is scrutinized by our quality assurance before it is sold in the market. This way you can be sure that maximum effort has been put into producing high quality products that give the best value for money. With this catfish feed program Coppens is committed to the catfish sector.

Sturgeon

Sturgeon

Sturgeon are cartilaginous fishes that are known for their highly desirable and precious caviar. Most sturgeon species grow to large sizes and are characterised by a carnivorous life style. Due to their late maturing and overfishing, the stocks of many sturgeon species have declined enormously. Since several years sturgeon farming is increasing first for restocking purposes but now more and more for commercial reasons. Sturgeon have tasteful meat and provide delicious caviar.

The present trend is to farm sturgeon species in recirculation systems because they can offer controlled and optimal conditions for fast growth. This type of farming is capital intensive and it takes several years before marketable products can be sold. Bearing in mind the differences between cartilaginous sturgeon and bony fishes their nutritional requirements are different too. Coppens has published a sturgeon manual that can be supplied upon request. Coppens recognises the typical nutritional requirements of sturgeon and has developed a special sturgeon feed program with unique products giving excellent performance. All the feeds of the SteCo program are developed and used for Beluga, Russian sturgeon, Siberian sturgeon, Sterlet, Stellate sturgeon, White sturgeon, paddlefish and others. New for the 2010 season is a special diet, SteCo Caviar, that promotes caviar development in mature female sturgeon. Sturgeon nutrition remains an important research topic at the Coppens Research Centre (CRC) and comprises feed tests with different sturgeon species. The current program promotes fast and efficient growth while the impact on the environment, pollution and water consumption, is minimised. The selected ingredients are purchased from certified suppliers only and meet the highest standards. Every produced batch of feed is scrutinized by our quality assurance before it is sold in the market. This way you can be sure that maximum effort has been put into producing high quality products that give the best value for money. With the SteCo sturgeon feed program Coppens is at the forefront of the sturgeon farming.

Trout

Trout

Trout farming has a long tradition in Europe and has matured over the years. From extensive farming methods it has progressed towards intensive forms of production in order to make production more cost effective. Liquid oxygen is often used to increase and control the oxygen levels providing optimal conditions even at high stocking densities.

Water purification and recirculation are becoming widely used offering possibilities to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable farming. Coppens International's newest high energy diets like TroCo ULTRA, ULTIMATE and SPECTRA reflect these developments. These diets offer sufficient protein and ample oil to maximise growth. All three are based on the phase feeding concept whereby each pellet size has a different composition to give the trout precisely what it needs at that particular growth phase. Next to that Coppens has published a trout manual about advanced trout farming that can be supplied upon request. Coppens trout feed program promotes fast and efficient growth while at the same time the impact on the environment, pollution and water consumption, is minimised. New for 2010 is a TroCo Karelia with a low astaxanthin level designed for use in cages and year round production of pink fleshed trout. The selected ingredients are purchased from certified suppliers only and meet the highest standards. Every produced batch of feed is scrutinized through an extensive quality control before it is sold in the market. This way you can be sure that maximum effort has been put into producing high quality products that give the best value for money. With this feed program Coppens is at the forefront of the trout sector.

Tilapia

Tilapia

Tilapia farming is one of the oldest forms of fish farming and has developed into a large professional industry. Traditionally tilapia are cultured in ponds and cages in the hot climates of Asia, Africa and South-America. Tilapia are tropical, hardy fish that grow well in fresh and brackish water. Their culture is largely sustainable due to the low dependency on fish meal and fish oil of this species. Tilapia are herbivorous fish that convert lower digestible vegetable products into high quality fish proteins making them all the more commercially attractive.

Tilapia filets are internationally recognised as a delicious and healthy product. A new development is to culture tilapia commercially in colder climates in recirculation systems. These systems contribute to sustainability by providing optimal conditions for high performance while reducing the impact on the environment to the minimum. Feeds suitable for such systems also have to meet other than nutritional criteria like a high water stability and a high durability when used with automated chain feeding systems. Coppens is known for its high quality tilapia starter feeds. The feeding protocol developed at the Coppens Research Centre is a valuable guide to help hatcheries reach the best results. The current feed program contributes to sustainable tilapia farming. The selected ingredients are purchased from certified suppliers only and meet the highest standards. Every produced batch of feed is scrutinized by our quality assurance before it is sold in the market. This way you can be sure that maximum effort has been put into producing high quality products that give the best value for money.

Marine

Marine

Marine fish farming in the Mediterranean is characterised by a high degree of professionalism and ongoing development. The scale of operation has increased and husbandry, farming methods and disease control have improved considerably over the years. The produced bass and bream are widely recognised as a delicacy and find their way to many top restaurants in all of Europe. This quality image is well deserved and a precious one for further development of the marine industry.

Carp

Carp

The cyprinids are a wide group of commercially interesting fish species. Carp farming is one of the oldest forms of fish farming and today common and mirror carp are still farmed for the table. Species like tench, crucian carp and even bream are widely cultured for restocking natural waters and commercial fisheries. Today we all know the many coloured cyprinid variants that are kept as pet fish.

+ More info

All cyprinids are characterised by the lack of a stomach and a very long intestine. This type of digestive tract is the result of the omnivorous lifestyle in which zooplankton, invertebrates and fibrous plant material play a large role. The longer gut length corresponds to a high level of less digestible material in the natural diet of the fish. A much longer exposure period to the digestive enzymes within the gastric tract is required for an efficient digestion. Since the protein intake is relatively low carp function well without having a real stomach that normally is important for the first step in the protein digestion. These characteristics are important considerations for making feed formulations and are the starting point for the CarpCo program.

Coppens International carefully selects its ingredients to get a nutritional balance between vegetable products like various grains and fish and plant proteins for its cyprinids diets reflecting the natural food. All the diets are very tasty giving good feed intakes and with modern extrusion technology the digestibility is further improved. Every batch of feed is pre-checked by our quality assurance before it is sold in the market. This way you can be sure maximum effort has been put into producing high quality products that give the best value for money. With this CarpCo program Coppens remains committed to the cyprinids sector.
